MRI

Our MRI facility is equipped with a modern, full-size, open MRI machine which allows for a more comfortable experience for you. Our facility and technicians are accredited by the American College of Radiology, specializing in musculoskeletal and spinal imaging.

WHAT IS MRI?

MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging and is a noninvasive medical imaging technique used to visualize the detailed internal structure of the body, especially the contrast between the different soft tissues. An MRI captures multiple images utilizing a magnetic field, rather than any radiation, therefore providing a much safer way of obtaining the necessary images. It is important to note that because of its powerful magnetic field, some metallic objects may not be safe in the MRI room.

IMPLANTS

Most surgeons provide an implant card that indicates whether or not an implant is MRI-safe. As a rule, most orthopedic implants are okay for MRIs, such as total joint and spinal instrumentation. Some mechanical implants in the heart and brain are not dangerous, however pacemakers are never safe for MRI exams. We will not perform an MRI with some types of implants without first having a statement from your surgeon in regards to your implant safety.

WHAT TO WEAR?

It is best to wear something comfortable without any metal objects; for example, t-shirts, sweatshirts or sweatpants. If you do wear something with metal in it, you will be asked to change into scrubs. We will provide a changing room and a locker in order for you to store your valuables. Please avoid wearing excessive jewelry and hair accessories.

APPOINTMENT TIME

The appointment time you’ve been given is the actual time your scan will begin so we ask that you arrive 15 to 20 minutes early in order to have enough time to check in and, if necessary, get changed for your scan.
