P. Lauren Savage, Jr., M.D.
"When a patient comes to me with a spine problem, with back pain, or with an injury, I want to treat the whole person, not just the
medical condition."
Dr. Savage's training is unique in the Southeast. He is the first orthopedic surgeon to complete a three-part fellowship combining
specialized training in both spine surgery and neurosurgery; these areas of specialization include scoliosis, microsurgery,
minimally invasive surgery, treatment of spinal trauma and adult degenerative conditions, as well as tumors and infection.
Born in Piedmont, Alabama, Dr. Savage holds a bachelor's degree from Birmingham-Southern College. He received his medical degree
from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed his orthopedic residency at the University of Alabama at
Birmingham. Dr. Savage's fellowships were completed at the Microsurgery and Brain Institute in St. Louis, Missouri, Indianapolis
Neurosurgical Group, Indianoapolis, Indiana, and Spine Surgery, P.S.C. in Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. Savage is Board-certified in
orthopedic surgery.
Dr. Savage is married to Christy Jebeles Savage, D.M.D., an orthodontist who practices on the Medical Center East campus. They
have two daughters and one son.
